Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year!

Dear Fourth Grade Parents,

We are so excited to begin this new school year with your children. We hope your families have had an awesome summer with many fun and relaxing times together. We wanted to explain what your child's day will look like and would also like to tell you a little about ourselves. We look forward to getting to know you as we go through the year.

Mrs. Antoniono will be in our classroom from 8:00am - 12:30pm.  You will reach out to her if your child is sick, or running late, or you have any other beginning-of-the-day concerns.  First thing in the morning your children will have writing with Mrs. Hyde. Then they will be with Mrs. Antoniono doing math from 9:15am to 11:15am  (snack is from 10:15-10:30)..  After that, they will have reading with Mrs. Moon before their 12:30pm lunch break. All fourth graders trade classrooms for reading and writing as Mrs. Antoniono teaches third, fourth and fifth grade math.

After lunch, your children will be spending their afternoon with Ms. Williams doing projects.  She will be in the classroom from 1:15pm to 4:00pm.  You will reach out to her if your child has any afternoon appointments, early dismissals, a birthday celebration or if you have any questions about projects. Students will have either P.E. or specials each day from 1:30 - 2:15, they will start the year with Lego Robotics as their special. This is a new special this year and should be fun and exciting.

Throughout the year you may have general concerns for your child- work ethic, behavior, social issues, etc.  In this case, we encourage you to include both of us on your correspondence so we can work as a team regarding your concern.

Yes, technically your child will have 4 different teachers for the 4 different subject areas.  Antoniono- math, Moon- reading, Hyde- writing, Williams- projects.  When your concerns are subject based, please reach out directly to the teacher teaching that subject.  But Mrs. Antoniono and Ms. Williams will stand as a united team to guide your kiddos through their 4th grade year.

Nancy Williams: I will be teaching your children in the afternoons this year. We will be exploring projects in both social studies and science. Learning more about our state of Nevada will be a huge emphasis in social studies and in science we will work a lot with earth and physical sciences, with a little bit of life science and health. I moved here from Michigan three years ago and my elementary degree is in science, with a minor in reading. I have taught for almost 30 years, working with students from first grade through high school in public schools, gifted programs, the Peace Corps, and as a science teacher trainer through the University of Michigan. I've been at Oasis for three years now and love the school, the families, and the people I work with. I have a 21 year old daughter who will graduate college this year and a sophomore daughter here at Oasis College Prep. I am truly thrilled to be a part of the Oasis family and welcome your questions, concerns and help in making sure your children have a year of growth and learning that is fulfilling.

Mrs. Antoniono: This will be my 11th year in the classroom with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders!  I'm originally from Chicago and taught there for 6 years before moving to Fallon in 2011.  I was part of the original staff when Oasis opened and absolutely love working at this school and in this community. Over the years I have become very familiar with the Common Core Math Standards and I enjoy nothing more than watching my students find success in mathematics.   I have two little girls at home, Louise (3) and Libby (19 months) with Baby #3 due in December.  I feel lucky to have struck the work/family balance I was craving and love having your students as part of my life.

We will be communicating with you this year through Google Classroom instead of the Blogs we used to use. We will share more information about that with you soon. We also wanted to remind you that Back To School Night will take place on Thursday August 30th from 5:30pm-7:00pm and we look forward to meeting with each of you then.

Keep your eye out for an email coming soon regarding volunteer opportunities in our classroom.

Enjoy the next couple weeks of summer.  Please be in touch with any questions or concerns you have regarding the dynamics of our classroom.  We want to make this year as smooth as possible for all of our families!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Antoniono and Ms. Williams
