Change in plans

The students seemed to really enjoy their introduction to Noodle yesterday. Unfortunately, there was a problem in getting the frog for today's dissection so we will be rearranging our schedule and dissecting either Thursday or Tuesday. Just an FYI!

Happy New Year!

Dear Parents/Guardians, I hope you and your families had a wonderful winter break. Thank you so much to all of the parents and children who gifted me with wonderful holiday goodies and gifts. A special thank you to Alysa's grandma who not only made  up a wonderful stocking for me, but also came and helped with our craft on the Thursday before break. In addition, I want to thank Lexi's mom who put together our quilt for Mrs. Antoniono's baby. They love it and use it daily! Our new project is... Plants and Animals: How Do They Do That? We will be learning about plants and animals including their structures and functions. Students will create an interactive slide show with a partner about an animal they will choose/be assigned. We will have a presentation of these slide shows in early February and will let you know when we have a specific date. We have added a new pet to our classroom. Her name is Noodles and she is a ball python. She is about 3.5 feet long and the stude

'Twas the week before Christmas

Happy Holidays to you and your family! I hope you have a wonderful break with a lot of together time in which you can build special memories. I also hope everyone in your family stays healthy!! During the coming week we will complete our Map project. Unfortunately, it has taken students much longer than expected to work on these maps and they have not been able to complete them in a way that will allow us to present them to their families as we had planned. We will be presenting them, no matter what point of completeness they have reached, to others here at school on Wednesday. I am disappointed that you will not get to see the results of their hard work, but I promise that they will be presenting other projects after the first of the year that you will be invited to see. On Thursday, we will spend the afternoon celebrating the season with a craft project, Secret Santa gift exchange, and possibly a movie. Mrs. Antoniono will come and introduce little James to the class. We have a p

Area Model for Division

Today in math we learned the area model strategy for division.  The kids did well as they worked through several problems.  I told them I would post a video to help clarify questions they may have for the homework.

Conferences, Project and Holiday plans

Hi Parents/Guardians, It has been a long time since I have updated this blog. I am sorry, but life in our classroom has been crazy. In a good way! ***If you have not signed up for conferences for tomorrow, please contact me so we can set up a time when we can sit down together and discuss our first trimester. We are required to meet with every parent, and I will have to keep bugging you until that happens. ;-) Our project with maps is coming together very slowly. I am hoping we will finish next week and will let you know when our presentations will take place so you can come and see and hear what these fourth graders have learned about our state. Yesterday, I sent home student slips for a gift exchange/Secret Santa on the last day of school before break. As the note stated, if you do not choose to have your child participate, please let me know as soon as possible so I can make sure every child gets a gift. If you do that, please send the paper back with your child so I have so

Finishing up our first project!

Image
We have completed our first project: Who Would Move to Nevada? The students did a fabulous job on their models and essays. They worked so hard and were very proud. Yesterday they presented their projects to our class and today we did a walk through with the other fourth grade class so they could see each others. Tomorrow we will start our next project in which we will learn about maps and the components of maps. We will once again focus on Nevada and students will design and build their own maps with many features regarding Nevada, its people and places. At the end of this project you will be invited to see students present their maps and all they have learned.

October, pictures and project

Good Evening! I'm sorry to say I forgot to send home pictures today as we were working on projects right until the last minute! I will be sure to send them home tomorrow. We have finished our first round of edits for the essays and the timelines. Those will both be completed this week, and students will start creating their models. I know they are looking forward to this next step. They have been real troopers with the research and we are all looking forward to the "fun" part of the project. They have learned soooo much! As they work on their plans for the models, they may be asking to bring some supplies in from home. Most supplies can be provided at school, but they may want some special items to add to their model. Thank you for your support in this. You have awesome kids, and I am loving working with all of them! Ms. Williams
